The purpose of this research study is to develop different methods of measuring lifestyle behaviors, such as physical activity and sleep, as well as environmental factors that might drive these behaviors.  The study is funded by the National Cancer Institute.

Can I use my own Fitbit if I already own one?

-We ask that you use the Fitbit that we have provided to you for this study.

Can I use Fitbit when not sampling? After the study is over?

-You are free to use the Fitbit as much as you like in between sampling periods or after the study has ended. We only ask that you wear the Fitbit for 24 hours a day (except when showering, bathing, or swimming) during the seven-day sampling periods four times a year.

Is this study sponsored by Fitbit?

-No. this study is not sponsored by Fitbit. We are using Fitbit devices to measure activity, heart rate, and sleep, but we are not supported by nor partnering with Fitbit.

Can I choose the color of my Fitbit?

-At this point, we only can provide black Fitbit devices.

 

Can I look at all my steps/activities during the sampling period?

-You are free to interact with the Fitbit device and the Fitbit app during the study. After the study has completed, you are free to use the Fitbit device as long as you wish.

 

Should I change my exercise/walking routine during the sampling period?

-No, the goal of this study is to measure your normal physical activity patterns. There is no need to change your behavior for this study.

 

What happens if I lose or break my Fitbit?

-If you lose or break your Fitbit, please contact us and we may be able to provide a new device.

 

Should I leave the study if I get injured (sprained ankle, broken arm) between sampling periods and don’t have the same walking/sleeping routine?

What happens if I move (new house/apartment/city) during the year?

-This will not affect your participation in the study. Please continue to follow the study protocol[PJ1] .

 

Can I delete the apps off my phone between sampling periods?

-No, please keep the apps on your phone for the entire year of the study.
